The most basic way to monitor doors and windows is with an ‘electric current alarm system’. A low voltage current flows between the wall and the door or window and when opened, the current is stopped and a beep is triggered.
A ‘wired alarm system’ signals whenever the current is stopped to a monitoring center, but it has the down side of being tampered with by having the wires cut.
A ‘wireless home alarm system’ uses a control panel of sensors to signal if a door or window was opened. The signal can be sent to your phone or laptop, and be email or text. It also allows for thermostat control, fire alarm, and can be connected to home security cameras.
